These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Cosmetic Checker mobile application and this website (together, the "Service"), operated by Peyton Greenwood ("we," "us"). By downloading, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

1. What Cosmetic Checker is — and isn't

The Service helps you understand the ingredients in cosmetics, personal-care items, supplements, food, and household products by generating informational summaries and a "clean score." These outputs are opinions and educational aids produced by artificial intelligence and public data — not authoritative safety determinations.

2. Medical, health & safety disclaimer

• The Service is for informational and educational purposes only.
• It does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and using it does not create a doctor–patient or professional relationship.
• Product scores and ingredient assessments are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate, or prevent any disease, medical condition, or health disorder.
• Information in the App has not been evaluated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or any regulatory body, and the App is not a medical device.
• We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the FDA, EWG, EPA, ECHA, any brand, or any manufacturer.
• If you have allergies, sensitivities, are pregnant or nursing, take medication, or have a medical condition, consult your physician or pharmacist before using or discontinuing any product. If you experience an adverse reaction, seek medical attention promptly.
• Never use the App as the sole basis for a health decision. Always read the product's own label and follow its directions and warnings.

3. AI-generated content & accuracy

Results are generated by AI models using publicly available and community-sourced data, which may be incomplete, out of date, or incorrect. Ingredient lists, formulations, and product identities can change and may be misread from a barcode or photo. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any result, and you use the Service at your own discretion and risk. Verify anything important against the product's official label and trusted professional sources.

4. Subscriptions, free trial & payments

Cosmetic Checker offers an optional auto-renewable subscription ("Cosmetic Checker Pro") and a one-time lifetime purchase, sold through the Apple App Store:

• Monthly — $6.99 per month.
• Yearly — $49.99 per year, including a 3-day free trial for eligible new subscribers.
• Lifetime — $99.99, a one-time purchase (non-renewing).

Prices are in U.S. dollars and may vary by region and over time. For auto-renewable subscriptions:

• Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
• The subscription automatically renews at the then-current price unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions. Deleting the App does not cancel a subscription.
• If you start a free trial and purchase a subscription, any unused portion of a free trial is forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.

Your use of the App is also subject to Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA). Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with the App Store's policies.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to reverse engineer it, disrupt it, access it by unauthorized means, or use it to violate any law or the rights of others.

6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, text, and branding, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by applicable laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable license to use the App for its intended purpose.

7. Third-party data & services

The Service uses third-party providers and public databases (including Apple, RevenueCat, Anthropic, Supabase, and Open Beauty Facts / Open Food Facts). We are not responsible for the accuracy or availability of third-party data or services, and your use of them may be subject to their own terms.

8. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or accurate.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on the Service or any result it produces. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves. Material changes are indicated by the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of [YOUR STATE], United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles, and you agree to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there, except where prohibited by applicable law.
